DIY: Clip-In Hair Bows

I've been seeing hair bows pop up everywhere lately, and I think that they are a really pretty touch to add to an outfit. They are also usually super overpriced. BUT they are easy and cheap to make at home, and you can add your own personal touches if you choose to do it yourself, without even picking up a needle. I also think that these could be equally as adorable as a bow-tie for a little boy and I would make a ton if I had one.

What you'll need:
Fabric (1/4 yard is sufficient for three or four or more bows depending on the size)
Fabric Glue
Alligator Clips
Scissors

Step 1: Fold over the 1/4 yard fabric lengthwise one time, the desired width of your bow.

Step 2: Fold that same side over one more time to get a neater edge.

Step 3: Cut the fabric right at the edge of the fold.

Step 4: Fold over one end to the middle of the fabric, and apply fabric glue.

Step 5: Fold the other half of the fabric to meet the previous fold, overlapping slightly.

Step 6: Cut a strip off the original fabric to be used for the center of the bow. It should be about 3 times the desired width of the center.

Step 7: Apply fabric glue to the edge of this newly cut fabric strip.

Step 8: Fold the fabric in thirds, pressing down lightly so the glue sticks.

Step 9: Take the body of the bow and pinch it in the center.

Step 10: Wrap around the center of the bow with the middle fabric, cut to a reasonable length, and glue down.

Step 11: Glue on an alligator clip to the back, and allow to dry.

That's it! There are numerous sizes you can make and patterns you can use. Just be creative with it and enjoy!

rhinestone bracelet diy

I know that stackable bracelets are kind of a summer thing, but I honestly believe that with the right colors, they'll look really nice in the fall as well. I made this bracelet to pass the time while traveling. It's relatively easy to do and low cost so it's definitely worth the try.

I used two colors here but you can use one if you would like. I think that a burgundy would look really nice because I have been obsessed with that color lately. All you need is embroidery floss, a safety pin, and a strip of rhinestones which can all be found at Walmart or a craft store like Micheals.

I am  really bad teacher so I'll leave you with these pictures and This link to a tutorial that teaches you how to create a bracelet like this. The only difference is that I used the rhinestone strip in the center.

Good luck!

a few snips and some lace trim

On Wednesdays me and my mom both get out of work early so we make it a point to visit a thrift store close by. It's in not so nice of an area so if you can put of with some cat calls on the walk there it's totally worth the trip. This dress was half price making it a dollar and some change and it looked like it would fit me perfectly so I knew that I had to pick it up. I took up the length and added a lace collar which turned it into something a bit more my style.

thrifted wolf

I fount this old gigantic wolf tee at a thrift store with my mom. Its such a weird thing for me to pick out, but I was drawn to the picture for some reason so I knew I had to have it. I gave it a few snips and stitches and it turned out to be something that I love to wear.

dip-dyed summer scarf

The other day my sister and I decided do dip dye some cheap fabric we found at fabric store close to my apartment to make a few scarfs that will be perfect the slightly cooler days in the summer.  It was really simple and turned out great.
We both chose to use teal and grey fabric dye from Micheal's by following the directions on the package but also adding a little vinegar because we were using lighter fabrics.  I finished my edges with a zig-zag stitch and faded from dark grey to dark teal lengthwise.  Amy left her edges as is and faded from dark grey to dark teal widthwise. The darker colors were achieved by letting some parts sit in the dye longer than the rest.

I hate to admit it, but I think my sisters turned out slightly better than mine.  However, they both turned out well and are completely wearable.

Neon Boat Shoes

My mom passed along these old pair of boat shoes, and I thought a little color would bring new life to them so I picked up some paint and a sponge and went to work.  I got this idea from a blog some time ago, but I can't remember quite where.  My apologies to the writer.  I think that they will be perfect for the summer.

Wood Works

I celebrated my 4 year anniversary with my boyfriend last week as well as my dad's birthday.  I remember seeing this tutorial on pinterest  here for a DIY wooden picture a while back and thought that it would make a great part of a present for both of them.  I was  feeling a little cheap and just used modge podge twice instead of the gel medium, but I think it turned out great.

Side Note:  Jeffrey took me to this place called Mindy's Hot Chocolate.  Their desserts are incredibly delicious, and that napolean was one of the best desserts that I have ever had (even though it looks like a mess from this picture).  They also had really amazing hot chocolate which came with a homemade marshmallow AND a shot of bourbon which surprisingly paired really well.
